Susan Bennett completed a Bachelor’s degree in Family Life Education and Master’s degree in Counseling from Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan. Since 2009, she has been working with clients experiencing a variety of life challenges.

Susan has worked in a gospel mission, a group home for young mothers, a church counseling ministry, a university counseling Center, and in private practice before joining Life Coaching and Counseling. She has experience working with teens and adults in individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and with groups.

The foundation for her counseling work is her goal to help clients make sense of their life story. This involves the process of exploring one’s belief system. Susan uses Family Systems Therapy as a foundational intervention in her practice. Attachment theory strongly informs her approach. She also uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy extensively along with Interpersonal Neurobiology and Coherence Therapy. These interventions provide a holistic approach to her counseling which assists clients to understand how their background has impacted them and how they need to adjust their thinking and feeling. The experiential interventions of Coherence Therapy and Interpersonal Neurobiology help shine a light on their emotional experience to allow them to embrace a different and more true emotional reality. This combination of interventions has proven to be helpful in Susan’s work with clients.

Philosophy of Christian Counseling:

"As a Christian counselor, I believe that God wants to heal at the deepest level.  In counseling therapy much

progress can be made; but the greatest, deepest and most lasting healing comes from the touch of God

himself.  It is always my desire in my counseling with clients to include God and make room for the Great

Physician, Wonderful Counselor, the Prince of Peace.  In my view, joining counseling therapy methods with

God's own healing touch is the comprehensive approach needed."
