Darlene Deveau,MAAT

Darlene is a devoted Christian and an Art Therapist. She is a graduate of Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT and the University of Maine at Orono. Darlene brings many years of experience teaching and helping children  in her work as a Life Coach and Counselor. She has adapted this work to a variety of both paid and volunteer settings over the years, including hospitals, residential group homes, churches, private homes, schools, preschools, day care centers, etc.

Darlene knows firsthand how the creative process can relax us to help us listen, express and organize our own thoughts. She is often found creating encouraging practical items for the people around her. Darlene loves to recycle and create art from throwaways, redesign clothes and decorate tote bags to give them new life. She is known to make up catchy little songs to help her students remember important truths. She plans art projects to go along with lessons or will bring interesting materials out for people who want to discover their own projects. Darlene inspires others with her practical suggestions regarding creating a peaceful environment where everyone can relax.

The Art Therapy process is simple: As individuals get  their hands and  their minds about the task of creating something, they relax and usually find them selves bringing feelings and thoughts out into the open where they can be validated, talked through and prayed over. When clients are with an experienced teacher or leader who knows how to guide the work and discussion, this often leads them to accept or change those feelings or thoughts, as necessary, and they can then reintegrate them as growth, becoming stronger in character. This strength in turn keeps them balanced in their relationships both with  their Creator and with those around them, and they can experience the peace and joy that come from trusting Him.
